Former student of the Centre National des Arts du Cirque (French National school for circus skills) at Chalons-en-Champagne, NIKOLAUS found his own clowning role upon leaving the school in 1991. He distinguished himself with his early work at Archaos and the Cirque Baroque.

The clown NIKOLAUS is a symbiosis of the white clown, here a philosophical juggler, and the red-nosed clown. He is not a juggling clown, nor a juggler clowning around. He is a clown-juggler who has recognized the universal connection of these two art forms and orchestrates their fusion. With NIKOLAUS the red nose takes the shape of a roaming red ball, weaving its way through all his productions like a guiding thread .
The absurd is his marking domain and his companion.

His work led him to win the Grand prix du festival Circa (1992) and the prix Raymond Devos (1994). After touring the world with Pafois j’ai des problèmes partout (1996) he founded his troup in 1998.

DIRECTOR

A part from his own plays, NIKOLAUS frequently directs other artists :

• 1998, conception, script-writing and co-directing of Fleurir with Ivika Meister and Jeanine Gretler in Brussels and directing of Alerte, for the circus troup Les Arrosés
• Directing Tryo & Les Arrosés in the musical show Reggae à coup d’Cirque. Toured in France and Belgium, including Zénith concert hall, Paris.
• 2003, directing the show Franz by and with Mme Françoise des Nouveaux Nez and pianist Rebecca Chaillot.
• 2005, directing the class of 2006 of the Centre National des Arts du Cirque for the project Trois petits points...
• 2007/2008 : Directing the trio "L’Anniversaire", for the troup Les Arrosés
